Monhegan Island
Monhegan Island, 12 miles out to sea, is among the best places to visit while staying at Spruce Point Inn. This small island, just ¾ mile wide and 1½ miles long, is a haven for those seeking beauty, quiet, and relaxation. The art galleries, lighthouse and museum and hiking trails are definitely worth a visit.
Monhegan Island attracts visitors from all over the world who want to paint, photograph, look for migrating birds, rare wildflowers, sea life (whales and seals), and who just want to escape for a few hours or days from their busy lives.
There are challenging hiking trails that lead to beautiful vistas. Trails are well-marked and the Island, while you would not notice it, is bustling all season.
Take the Balmy Days Monhegan Island Ferry from downtown Boothbay Harbor. It departs at 9:30 and returns at 4pm, in season.
