The world-class Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, on 250 acres in nearby Boothbay, offers more than a dozen individual ornamental gardens within a landscape that’s quintessentially Maine. Spectacular plantings, imaginative stonework and water features, a permanent sculpture collection plus seasonal art exhibits, and miles of waterfront and woodland trails set this garden apart. Surrounding the Visitor Center and Education Center (Maine’s “greenest” public building) are the two-acre multi-faceted children’s garden, extraordinary sensory garden, rose and kitchen gardens, and forest pond. A hillside garden leads to a  meditation garden beside the water. The focal point of the rhododendron garden nearby is a massive stone waterfall. The Gardens’ gift shop and café are of the highest quality, and events and educational programs offer something for all ages in all seasons. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is open daily from 9-5, year-round.
